Suggestions for "working out" your mind to improve your mental health:
Spend time doing things you enjoy
Spend time with people you love and nurture positive relationships with family and friends
Take care of your physical health through nutrition and physical activity
Be informed. Learn about positive mental health and mental health issues.
Cultivate spiritual well-being through prayer, worship, meditation, etc.
Get counselling and/or medical care if needed (school guidance counsellor, Teen Clinic, etc.)
Anxiety
What is Anxiety? Anxiety is a common feeling usually described as "uneasiness" or "apprehension". Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. Sometimes anxiety starts interfering with daily life (e.g. going to class, hanging out with friends, etc.). People with high levels of anxiety frequently experience intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. The symptoms of high anxiety can include the following:
Increased heart rate
Shortness of breath
Stomach-aches, headaches
Constant worry
Fear or dread of something happening
Avoiding situations that you're worried about
According to our 2016 student survey, 23% of NPC students experience moderate to high anxiety.
Coping Strategies NPC students have successfully used the following coping strategies to manage anxiety:
Deep Breathing
Physical Activity (going for a walk, working out, ...)
Spirituality (prayer, worship, meditation, ...)
Creative activity (playing an instrument, drawing, dancing, ...)
