Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarship Program For students who possess the character to overcome adversity and succeed in life. Students must demonstrate financial needs ($65,000 or less annual net income per family), be involved in co-curricular and community activities, maintain a minimum average of 65%, and plan to pursue post-secondary studies. 80 awards of $5,000 each 5 awards of $10,000 each and an all-expense paid conference in Washington, DC Deadline: October 25 (or following business day if it falls on a weekend)
TD Canada Trust Scholarships for Community Leadership Students must have a minimum average of 75%. The key criterion is outstanding community leadership! Application requires an essay and several letters of support. Only paper applications are available at this time. Please see Guidance for a paper copy if you're unable to access PDF files. 20 awards of $70,000 each: up to $10,000 for tuition per year, $7500 a year toward living expenses, an offer of summer employment during the years of scholarship, and more! Deadline: November 16 (all applications and supporting documents MUST be with TD by Nov. 16. No applications will be accepted after deadline regardless of the postmark date.)
Vimy Pilgrimage Award The Vimy Pilgrimage Award recognizes the actions of young people who demonstrate outstanding service, positive contributions, notable deeds, bravery or leadership. Their acts may have served their peers, schools, communities, province or country. Scholastic achievement is not a criterion for this award. 20 awards: Fully funded week-long educational program in Vimy, France! Deadline: November 18
Leader of Tomorrow - University of Manitoba Recognizes academic giftedness as well as the leadership potential of high school graduates entering studies at the University of Manitoba. Students must apply for admission to the UofM by the scholarship deadline to be considered for the award. 9 Awards of $16,000 each, distributed over four years of study. Deadline: December 1
CGTrader Scholarship Write and submit a 500-1000 word essay on the topic “Our life on a spaceship: the future of mankind”. 1 award of $2000 and 2 awards of $500 each Deadline: December 14
Burger King Scholars Award The application period begins October 15. You do not need to work at Burger King to qualify for an award. These scholarships are intended to help students offset the cost of attending college, university or vocational/technical school. For students with a 75% or higher academic average. The MB Council for Exceptional Children Scholarship TWO AWARDS for students pursuing a career directly related to working with persons with exceptionalities AND TWO AWARDS for persons with exceptionalities pursing post-secondary. 2 x 2 awards of $750 each Deadline: January 9
STEAM Horizon Awards For students pursuing post-secondary study in the fields of science, technology, engineering, art and design, and mathematics (STEAM). The award will be given to individuals who demonstrate inspiring achievement in these fields. Applicants must also have obtained an academic average of at least 85% in the previous year of study and be preparing to enroll in a STEAM field in Canada in the fall of 2018 . 5 awards of $25,000 Deadline: January 16
Schulich Leader Scholarships For students who are entrepreneurially minded and enrolling in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) areas of study at participating Canadian Universities. Not available for students planning a career in medical research or as a medical practitioner. NPC CAN NOMINATE ONE STUDENT. Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Applicants must be involved in humanitarian volunteer work. $28,000 over four years Deadline: February 1 of each year.
Future Aces Foundation Scholarship Scholarships are available to students from across Canada who exhibit exemplary citizenship qualities. Awards of $1,000 Deadline: February 4
Optimist International Essay Contest Write and submit an essay on the topic, "Can Society Function without Respect?" See your guidance counsellor for more information. $2,500 Deadline: February 15
YMCA-YWCA Women of Distinction: Prairie Award of Promise This award will be made to a young woman, enrolled in a school outside the Winnipeg City limits, who will graduating from Grade 12. She has made a significant contribution to her school and community, has demonstrated scholastic achievement and shows promise of becoming a Woman of Distinction. She should be a role model for other young women. $2,000 Deadline: Award is under review and my not be offered for this school year. The Colonel Douglas H. Gunter Award Available to all graduates. Applicants must submit an original work that satisfies the requirements given (text, visual art, audio or video production), and a completed application form. 5 prizes of $1,000 each Deadline: Award is under review and won't be offered for this school year.
Optimist International Oratorical Contest Present a speech on the topic, "Where are my Roots of Optimism?" This link contains the video of the speech that won $22,500 last year. The Canadian Association of Principals Student Leadership Award Our school can nominate ONE student who has demonstrated outstanding leadership. Student must be in the top 20% of their class. Stacey Levitt Memorial Award This annual high school student award encourages Canadian youth to embody Stacey’s qualities and ideals and Parachute’s overarching goal of a long life lived to the fullest, while maintaining an approach that is rooted in risk management and injury prevention. The award could be put towards an educational endeavour, engagement in sports, or investment in a travel experience – all pursuits that would have resonated with Stacey. Award recipients are expected to write a reflection on the impact of the funding on their life, due within one year of the distribution of funds. $2,500 Deadline: March 1
RE/MAX "Quest for Excellence" Bursary Must apply online - students are required to write a short essay (1,250 word MAX.) conveying the contributions they have made to their communities. 16 bursaries of $1000 each. Leonard Foundation Financial Assistance Program For students enrolled or enrolling in an accredited undergraduate degree program in Canada, studying full-time. Preference will be given to daughters or sons of ordained clergy, licensed elementary or secondary school teachers, Canadian military personnel, graduates of a Canadian Military College, members of the Engineering Institute of Canada and members of the Mining and Metallurgical Institute of Canada. WOW Wellness of the Whole Award Dairy Producers of Manitoba in partnership with Manitoba Physical Education Teachers' Association wants to encourage and recognize students to develop positive attitudes and behaviours, healthy living practices and community involvement for success later in life. Metro Winnipeg Council for Exceptional Children To support special needs students from Manitoba. The individuals must be entering or in the first year of a current full time education or training program in a Post Secondary Canadian institution (Community College, University, Campus Life, etc.). The scholarship money will be given directly to the recipients upon verification of enrollment. 2 awards of $500 each Deadline: March 18
Epilepsy and Seizure Association of MB - Ron Dixon Memorial Scholarship Applicants must have diagnosed epilepsy or seizure disorder that restricts the ability of a person to perform the activities necessary to participate in educational activities. This limitation is expected to remain with the person for life. The applicant must be a resident of Manitoba and a current member in good standing of the Epilepsy and Seizure Association of Manitoba at the time of scholarship application. Premier's Healthy Living Award for Youth with $500 Bursary The Premier's Healthy Living Award for Youth recognizes the achievements of young Manitobans who are positive role models for other children and youth in promoting healthy lifestyles. Award recipients will receive a $500 bursary and commemorative medal at a public recognition ceremony at the Manitoba Legislative Building. Folklorama & The Jewish Foundation of Manitoba: The Mark & Dorothy Danzker Scholarship for Excellence For students who demonstrate an active involvement in preserving cultural heritage through volunteer work, employment or contributions to a cultural activity in the general community. RBC Award For high school students in Grade 12 in Atlantic Canada, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Northern Ontario who will be attending a Canadian post-secondary institution. South Central Citizenship Award This award is intended to recognize students in South Central Manitoba who make a meaningful contribution to their community. Applicants must be in good academic standing with an established plan for post-secondary education or training for the fall of 2018. They should have had some involvement and leadership responsibilities in and out of school. Ken Dryden Scholarship For students who are currently, or formerly, in the care of the Canadian child welfare system. The Keith Cooper Scholarship For young people who have been cared for by any of the four Manitoba Child and Family Services Authorities. Canadian Blood Services - Assignment Saving Lives Bursary Program To become eligible for bursaries, students are challenged to recruit potential blood donors between May 29th 2017 and September 2nd 2017. This Contest is open to all residents of Manitoba, who are 16 years of age or older who: are presently enrolled in a secondary school in Canada or in a post-secondary education program in Canada; and, fully complete, and submit the Canadian Blood Services Contest Registration form.
